My teen son had a blast following the events of the last Force Friday. Can I admit it baffled me a little how excited he was? He was so, SO excited. He really got a kick out of seeing all the new Star Wars stuff as it was announced. Clearly, I “am not the demographic they are looking for.” (Get it?) Well, anyway…
This year Force Friday is back with a new twist, Find the Force II!
Force Friday is back!
Find the Force II augmented reality event.
Not only will the new product line for Star Wars: The Last Jedi launch globally at 12:01 AM September 1. But this year the event will last three whole days! From September 1-3, 2017, stores carrying the Star Wars: The Last Jedi products will be “home” to augmented reality Star Wars characters.
What is augmented reality at the Find the Force Star Wars event?
Virtual reality vs. Augmented Reality
Virtual reality is where you can only see a non-existent world. It’s usually referring to 3-dimensionality. (Our family has the HTC VIVE – Virtual Reality System and it is so, so COOL. All the teens want to hang out at our house!)
Augmented reality is overlaying your view of the real world with things that are not real. That way, the new things look like they’re part of the real world. You are augmenting reality.
How augmented reality will work at the Find the Force Star Wars event
20,000 retail locations world wide will be “home” to augmented reality stars.
That means that when fans are at those locations, they will be able to activate a unique augmented reality experience featuring Star Wars characters using their phones. The augmented reality will include fan-favorites and new surprise additions from the film.
How can you see the augmented reality at Find the Force Friday 2017?
Here’s how viewing the augmented reality will work.
- Download the Star Wars App, which is your one-stop-shop for all things Star Wars (Link below. Those who already have the app will need to download the latest version).
- Visit any one of 20,000 participating retail locations to find a graphic that contains the Find the Force logo. (That will include select Target locations! Find out if there’s a Target store participating near you!)
- Scan the graphic using the Star Wars App. You’ll reveal a character, who through augmented reality, will appear in the room with you!
- You can then take photos, record videos, and share the experience on social media.
- By sharing photos or videos featuring the in-store AR characters on Twitter or Instagram using #FindtheForce and #Sweepstakes throughout Force Friday II weekend, fans in select global markets can participate in a sweepstakes for the chance to win the ultimate fan experience: tickets to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiere in December.
- Come back each day to reveal new characters! (15 in total across the program’s three-day run).
You don’t have to wait for Star Wars Force Friday II
While you’re waiting check out Star Wars stuff at Target.com.And the best 4-star and up Star Wars stuff on Amazon.com. It’s not too early to start your Christmas shopping! I already see a couple of items that will be good stocking-stuffers for my teen son! And daughter!
In fact, I’m tempted to get a jump on my holiday shopping right now! But I’m restraining myself so I can get this information out to you!
I was thrilled to see that they have created a new Star Wars line of Star Wars heroines, Forces of Destiny.
My daughter was so irritated that they shortchanged Rey in their toys and products at first. She still remembers when we went to Target looking for Star Wars toys after seeing The Force Awakens. There was just ONE Rey toy. She was hopping mad! (Yes, this is the daughter that I wrote about in Gender equality? When a picture’s worth a thousand words.)
The Star Wars: Forces of Destiny line has cool Star Wars stuff for girls. Like the Star Wars heroine t-shirts for girls and lots of Star Wars heroine action figure dolls designed with girl appeal. Star Wars Forces of Destiny is also available on Amazon.
